About Us
By the summer of 2025, we will have 25 garden plots for our community. We started in 2020 with the goal of establishing 15 beds to serve over 400 households within the Rockingham, Halifax, Nova Scotia area. The growth for garden beds is wonderful. With the help of our supporters, we erected a large fence to keep out the deer, built a shed to house gardening equipment, and this year we will be installing a Seed Library. Our Seed Library will be able to provide free seeds to residents wanting to try their hands at gardening. With the help of HRM we're also hoping to create a more user-friendly solar water pump system hooked up to our rain barrels so watering the garden becomes easier.
The establishment of our community garden is to help foster a place where citizens of all abilities will build friendships and promote health while providing a place for relaxation and alleviating stress through personal and group endeavours and by creating a hands-on means of action locally on global climate issues in relation to access to fresh, nutritious food.
“Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. The harvest can either be flowers or weeds.”
